A New England college. A west coast arriviste. MURDER. Sex. Greece. Drugs. Country houses. Does Donna Tartt's 1992 debut novel have everything? Is it pretentious? Is it a page turner? Can it be all of those things? Let's discuss over four evenings in October as we read about Richard and his cohort of classics majors and their collective desire to escape the banalities of 1980s liberal arts life for something more transcendent. Additional topics to consider: Do we ban the phrase "dark academia"? The Once Upon a Time... At Bennington College podcast. The enigma that is Donna Tartt, and whether she should ever let it be adapted into a film.
