McNally Jackson After Hours: Monkey Grip

April 19th

RSVP Required — details below

Do you regret not talking to the hot person on the train reading a book you like? Did your last Hinge date reveal that they haven't read a book since high school? Has a trusted friend recently made some decidedly sub-par reading suggestions? If you replied yes to any of the above, you are warmly invited to join us for a new McNally Jackson book club! In lieu of a traditional sit-down discussion we'll mix and mingle at our Seaport beer and wine bar and discuss a new book that we're particularly excited about, or an older title we think is worth revisiting.

In April we're reading Monkey Grip, the novel that launched the career of Helen Garner, one of Australia’s greatest writers. Adapted largely from Garner's diaries, Kirkus described it as “a dreamy sojourn in the druggy, sexy counterculture of mid-1970s Melbourne, Australia... High times with the mother of autofiction." Meanwhile, Lily King, author of Writers and Lovers says, “reading Helen Garner for the first time is like discovering a new and thrilling language. I plan to read every word she has written. This novel is a gift and a marvel.” Overall, perfect vibes for a conversation with a literary cutie over, say, a nice chilled orange wine!

Books can be shipped out or picked up at any McNally Jackson location. Just choose your preference at check out.
