I don’t know about you guys, but I, for one, am tired of not winning awards for my vast and comprehensive knowledge of young adult books. Most nights I find myself reciting Printz award winners in chronological order to my pet turtle, who remains unimpressed. Let’s change all that, shall we?
In honor of Teen Reads Week, McNally Jackson will be hosting our first annual YA Trivia Night at the store on October 16th. There are so many awesome elements to this that I can only express them in list form. BEHOLD:
1. Update: As of 10/2, we are filled to capacity and can not take any additional players for the game. If this is life-ruining for you, please email cristin@mcnallyjackson.com and she will Try To Figure Something Out Because That's the Kind of Gal She Is.
2. Entry fee is $10 per person, and the store is keeping exactly none of that money (see point #5).
3. Teams can be up to 5 participants each. You can come in a complete set of 5, or compete as a smaller team, or be placed on a team upon arrival.
4. There is a Seriously Awesome prize pack for the team that wins Best Team Name, as decided by the judges.
5. All proceeds will go to Literacy for Incarcerated Teens. There will also be opportunities at the event to donate books directly to Passages Academy, a NYC Board of Education program serving incarcerated and detained youths, ages 11-17.
6. The quiz questions are being developed by a team of children’s book editors who have, unknowingly or not, been training for this their entire lives.
7. The prize list contains many, many things that you will actually want to own. Keep an eye on our store tumblr page for prize previews. The complete prize list and accompanying photos will be released by 9/30.
8. Several YA dignitaries will be with us that night, reading from their work and rotating among the teams to help with answers. Already confirmed: Libba Bray, Bennett Madison, Gayle Forman, Robin Wasserman, Lauren Oliver, and our Rookie Author of the Year, Amelia Kahaney. All of our authors will be on hand to sign their books after the quiz ends.
