From a dynamic debut creator, here is a charming and endearing story about an elephant’s quest for acceptance—destined to become a modern classic.

Penelope loves her ten red balloons. She spends every moment with them, taking them with her everywhere she goes—school, ballet class, and the market. But when she loses all her balloons, Penelope is devastated. With a gentle nod to perennial classics in its art style, Penelope’s Balloons is a celebration of differences, embracing your identity, and, especially, friendship.

Debut author-illustrator Brooke Bourgeois beautifully explores childhood passions, identity, and anxiety in this timeless story about the power of friends, family, and community.

About the Author

Brooke Bourgeois is a cartoonist and illustrator based in London. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, she first moved to the UK for a post-graduate fellowship in storytelling and comedy after she graduated from Harvard with a degree in neurobiology. Brooke is primarily driven to recording instances of humor and surprise, and her cartooning work has been published in The New Yorker, Private EyeThe Harvard Lampoon, and The Drift. Having recently completed her MA in Children's Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art, Brooke's children’s books are heavily influenced by cartoons and animation, and her greatest hope is that her pictures and stories can make people laugh. In addition to drawing, Brooke is an educator and a performer, and she often collaborates with comedy groups and teaching institutions to enhance visual communication, particularly through humor.

Claire Tattersfield is the New York Times bestselling author of Cupig, illustrated by Rob Sayegh Jr. An avid writer of satire, she found that her work on her college's satire newspaper translated phenomenally to writing books for children, so she did a heel-turn and found herself in the children's book world. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, she now lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her partner and far too many books.
