Donal Ryan in conversation with Belinda McKeon

Donal Ryan, whose first novel The Spinning Heart garnered a chorus of critical praise and a raft of prizes, including a well-deserved Man Booker longlisting, reads from his newly released book The Thing About December,  an elegant novel of loneliness and loss which carries us to a pre-crash Ireland where greed still prevails. "This is a novel to replenish the reader’s heart and spruce the reader’s soul" (Sebastian Barry). Ryan will be joined in conversation by Belinda McKeon, award winning playwright, journalist, and formerly an arts writer for the Irish Times.Donal Ryan is from Nenagh in County Tipperary. His first novel The Spinning Heart won Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards, the Guardian First Book Award, was shortlisted for the IMRAC Dublin Literary prize, longlisted for the Man Booker Prize, and topped the bestseller lists for several weeks. He lives with his wife Anne Marie and their two children just outside Limerick City.

Belinda McKeon's debut novel Solace (Scribner) won the 2011 Faber Prize and was voted Irish Book of the Year as well as being shortlisted for the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
