We are thrilled to welcome phenomenal author, cartoonist, and illustrator Ivan Brunetti. Ivan’s work* includes over fifteen covers for The New Yorker since 2007; he’s a bestselling author who’s won both an Eisner and an Ignatz Award. Join us to celebrate the launch of Ivan’s incredible new children's book, Comics: Easy as ABC! The Essential Guide to Comics for Kids (Toon Books), featuring a foreword by Françoise Mouly. In a workshop format, with Ivan as comics mentor and sensei, we can make our own comics: develop expressive characters, human and otherwise; design settings, perspective, and props; link panels into strips as we shape points of view and narrative flow; try various comic techniques to convey excitement, fear, speed, suspense, hilarity. McNally Jackson will supply comic booklets and drawing materials, Ivan will share his talent and enthusiasm. Kids and adults will also be inspired by Ivan's previous Toon Books, 3 x 4, a playful introduction to multiplication and Wordplay, an exuberant exploration of compound words. Hosted by Yvonne Brooks. Great for ages 5 to 13. Free.
*Ivan has written two books of nonfiction published by Yale University Press: Cartooning: Philosophy and Practice and Aesthetics: A Memoir; he edited the bestselling An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons, and True Stories, Volumes 1 and 2 (Yale UP).
