Calligraphy for Kids

Our talented guest for this Saturday is Virginia Lucas Hart, author of the fantastic Fun and Friendly Calligraphy for Kids. Virginia will introduce kids to the beautiful and poetic art of calligraphy (perfect for Poetry Month), teaching them the basics and beyond; kids will learn how to use nibs and ink, younger kids can create with markers, applying techniques from calligraphy to their lettering projects. Virginia is a successful calligrapher, illustrator, and designer, whose work has been featured on NBC's The Today Show, Brides magazine, Flutter magazine, and many more. Virginia teaches modern calligraphy to both kids and adults, celebrating the beauty and importance of her students' individual styles. "The art of calligraphy doesn't teach one how to write words, but instead, how to draw them." With this book's lively and playful approach, kids can experiment with creative calligraphy and even improve their handwriting skills--all while having tremendous fun. Hosted by Yvonne Brooks. All ages welcome. Free.
