We're thrilled to welcome Lesley Ware for the launch of her fantastic new book, How To Be A Fashion Designer. Lesley is an absolute dynamo: author, designer, fashion educator, and entrepreneur. Lesley leads workshops for tweens and teens, helping kids learn the basics and beyond of sewing, design, and developing a creative, fun style. In addition to authoring the phenomenal Sew Fab: Sewing and Style for Young Fashionistas and My Fab Fashion Style File, Lesley has written for Martha Stewart Living, developed programs for the Girl Scouts, hosts a long-running blog (since 2008: www.thecreativecookie.com), and continues to mentor and inspire kids, interns, and adults from Brooklyn to California to the U.K. We loved the workshop Lesley led at McNally Jackson when she launched the incredible Sew Fab (selected by Amazon editors as one of the best children’s nonfiction books of 2015, and on our shelves now), and Lesley has a cool fashion designer tote bag workshop planned for this Saturday. How To Be A Fashion Designer (illustrated with brilliance and panache by Tiki Papier) supports the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) approach to cross-curricular learning while helping kids "use inspiration from the natural world, everyday life, and their own imaginations to design outfits from scratch and learn how to put together the clothes and accessories they already own in fun, stylish ways." Hosted by Yvonne Brooks. For ages 6 to 10. Free.
