We're thrilled to welcome Guillermo Fesser, author, filmmaker, scriptwriter, radio correspondent, and an advocate for children's education around the globe. He's famously known for his innovative Spanish radio program Gomaespuma. Guillermo has a remarkable ability to capture and express the human condition in his reporting, often with humor, always with insight. His 100 Miles from Manhattan should be required reading for anyone contemplating a move beyond our insular Manhattan, and we also recommend his wonderful Tedx talk. His newest book, Get to Know Bernardo de Gálvez, tells the amazing story of the Spanish Governor of Louisiana, General Bernardo de Gálvez, who became an American Revolutionary War hero when he aided George Washington's troops and fought to defeat the British. Guillermo's book features the story of the intrepid and determined activist (Teresa Valcarce) who worked tirelessly to get Bernardo de Gálvez the recognition pledged over 230 years ago. A painting of de Gálvez now hangs in the Capitol and he was awarded honorary citizenship by President Barack Obama (a rare honor). Guillermo's engaging book brings together so many elements: Hispanic and U.S. history, advocacy and activism, language and multiculturalism, a bit of suspense, and the perfect amount of humor. Event is best for kids 6 to 10. Hosted by Yvonne Brooks. No rsvp required. Free.
