Come and hear award-winning young writers step up to the mic and read their own work! These remarkable New York-area teens are recipients of the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards’ Gold Keys for their outstanding writing. Each participant will share a five-minute excerpt from their 2015 award-winning piece. Poetry, humor, personal essay, science fiction/fantasy – it’s all fair game! Come celebrate the voices of our future. We will be joined by two guest writers from Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards began in 1923 and feature a noteworthy roster of past winners including: Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, Joyce Carol Oates, and Lena Dunham, among others. Jurors choose works that best exemplify originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. The Awards continue to be the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S., and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers.
