Maria del Carmen Saen-de-Casas

María del Carmen Saen de Casas is an Associate Professor of Spanish and
the Deputy Chair of the Department of Languages and Literatures at
Lehman College (City
University of New
York). She received her “Licenciatura en Geografía e Historia” in 1985
from the Universidad de Sevilla, Spain; her M.A. in History from the
University
of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in 1987; her M.A. in Spanish Literature from the
University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in 1989; and her PhD in Spanish
Literature from the Graduate
Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) in 2006.
From 1989 to 1997 she was the Administrative director of the Cornell University-University of Michigan- University of Pennsylvania Study Abroad Program in Seville, Spain. Before joining the faculty at Lehman College, she hold part-time teaching positions at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, 1986-1989), Princeton University (2001-2004) and several CUNY Colleges (York, BMCC, Queens, Brooklyn and Hunter, 1997-2004).
Saen de Casas is author of the book La imagen literaria de Carlos V en sus crónicas castellanas (Edwin Mellen Press, 2009). Her research has focused on Spanish historiography and theater of the Golden Age. She has published several articles and reviews on these subjects in journals such as as Rilce, Boletín de la Fundación Federico García Lorca, Talia dixit, Ciberletras and Anuario Lope de Vega. In addition to being a co-participant in the Proyecto de Investigación “Las selecciones de discursos historiográficos desde la Antigüedad al Renacimiento; transmision e influencias” (Universidad de Extremadura, Spain), Saen de Casas is currently working on her second book , The Reign of Charles V in Early Modern Spanish Drama.
